About Strathmore

Strathmore School stands as a landmark institution in Kenya, known for its unwavering commitment to academic excellence and moral integrity. Established in 1961 in the Lavington area of Nairobi.

A Heritage of Vision and Integrity
Strathmore’s unique ethos is profoundly inspired by the encouragement of St. Josemaría Escrivá, the founder of Opus Dei, a Prelature of the Catholic Church. This spiritual foundation is integral to the school’s mission.

Pioneering Spirit (1961): Strathmore began as a Sixth Form College offering British A-level courses, bravely opening its doors to students of all races in the segregated colonial era a direct response to the founder’s call for unity (Ut Omnes Unum Sint – That All May Be One).

Expansion of Excellence: The school systematically expanded its offerings, admitting the first Form 1 students in 1977 and the first Standard 1 pupils in 1987, building the seamless educational journey it offers today.

Moral Formation: As an all-male day school, Strathmore emphasizes a well-structured Spiritual and Character Formation program, including mentorship through a Tutorial System, ensuring every boy develops goodness, honesty, responsibility, and tolerance.

Curriculum Focused on Holistic Success
Strathmore School is dedicated to providing a comprehensive public educational curriculum that prepares students to serve society usefully.

National Curriculum: The school delivers the Kenya National Curriculum (including the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) for the Primary section and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) for the Secondary section).

Future-Ready Pathways: In the Senior School (Forms 1–4/Junior and Senior Secondary), Strathmore focuses on rigorous pathways, primarily offering STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and Social Sciences subjects.

All-Round Development: Education is structured around key pillars: Academic Excellence, Robust Co-curricular Training (including the famous ‘Bandits’ Rugby team), and Spiritual/Character Formation, molding students into ‘Scholars of the Year’ and ‘Sportsmen of the Year’.

Strathmore School maintains its reputation through a high degree of personalized attention, an intensive continuous assessment (CAT) system, and strong partnership with parents.
