About Jamhuri High School
Jamhuri High School is one of Kenya’s most historically significant public institutions, boasting a rich legacy that began over a century ago. Established in 1906 as a Railway Educational Centre, the school has played a pivotal role in shaping Kenya’s history. Located in Ngara, Nairobi, the school’s story is one of resilience, growth, and community, reflecting the nation’s journey itself.
History, Identity, and Values
The school has undergone significant transformations, mirroring the socio-political evolution of the country:
Colonial Roots: Prior to independence, the school’s identity evolved. Notably, in 1955, it was renamed The Duke of Gloucester School, after Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester.
National Heritage: Following Kenya’s independence, the school was proudly renamed Jamhuri High School in 1964, cementing its status as a vital national institution committed to serving the Kenyan community.
Core Mission: At Jamhuri High School, education goes beyond academics to shape character, inspire leadership, and nurture purpose. We instill a sense of discipline, responsibility, and patriotism, preparing students to be ethical and productive citizens.
Curriculum Approach and Distinction
As a well-established National Public Secondary School, Jamhuri High School provides a robust and comprehensive educational experience aimed at maximum student growth.
Kenya National Curriculum: We adhere rigorously to the Kenya National Curriculum (8-4-4/CBE), focusing on strong preparation for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations. Our experienced faculty is committed to providing quality, holistic learning.
Leadership and Character: A key distinguishing factor is our emphasis on leadership and character development. Through mentorship programs, structured governance systems, and ethical instruction, we empower students to discover their potential and become tomorrow’s innovators and decision-makers.
Co-curricular Excellence: Jamhuri is known for its strong tradition in co-curricular activities, including a variety of competitive sports, clubs, and societies, fostering teamwork, discipline, and talent growth.
Jamhuri High School continues its long-standing tradition of academic rigor and character formation in the heart of the capital city.
