About Durham International School
Durham International School Kenya is a premier British branded private school in Nairobi, bringing a legacy of over 600 years of academic distinction from its sister school, Durham School UK (established 1414). Our Kenyan campus opened in 2021 and is the first branch of a prestigious British school to launch in East Africa. Durham’s mission is clear: to provide a rounded education that inspires and nurtures a love of lifelong learning, an aspiration for achievement, respect for others, and instills ‘Confidence for Life’.
Dual Campuses and World-Class British Curriculum
Durham International School operates across two specialized campuses in the leafy, diplomatic suburbs of Nairobi, ensuring an outstanding and focused educational experience for every age group:
Strategic Locations: We are situated in Thigiri (near Karura Forest and Gigiri) and Rosslyn, positioning us conveniently for families working at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters and surrounding embassies.
Curriculum: We deliver the globally respected British curriculum, utilizing the UK’s Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and the English National Curriculum (Key Stages 1, 2, and 3). This curriculum combines traditional academic rigor with innovative approaches, tailored to take advantage of the exciting learning opportunities unique to our Kenyan setting.
Future Pathways: Our program builds a strong academic foundation in subjects like English Language and Literature, Mathematics, and Science, preparing students for the IGCSE and A-Levels (Sixth Form), ensuring seamless progression to the world’s top universities.
The MARK of a Durham Education: Values and Ethos
The Durham philosophy is built upon three pillars and four core values that underpin all teaching and learning, distinguishing the student experience:
Core Values (MARK): Our ethos is defined by Moral Integrity, Ambition, Responsibility, and Kindness. These values shape a supportive and inclusive community where students are encouraged to thrive, be happy, and make a positive MARK in the world.
Three Pillars:
Academic Challenge: Providing students with a lifelong appetite for learning.
Pastoral Care: Supporting students’ emotional, moral, and spiritual strength.
Co-curricular Opportunities: Enriching and developing the individual, fostering collaboration, teamwork, and leadership skills.
We believe that only happy students reach their full potential, and our focus on well-being and small class sizes ensures every child is closely supported and challenged as an individual.
Durham International School Kenya offers a unique blend of centuries-old British educational excellence and modern, forward-looking teaching, delivered by a committed and inspirational team.
