About International School of Kenya

The International School of Kenya (ISK) is widely regarded as one of Africa’s premier international schools, providing an exemplary, internationally-focused education from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. Situated on a beautiful, sprawling campus at the end of Peponi Road, ISK inspires and nurtures passion, creativity, and ambition in pursuit of a better world.

A History of International Partnership
ISK’s rich history began in 1967 as the U.S. Community School, founded by the dedicated educator Nancy Ellen Crooks to serve the educational needs of expatriate and Kenyan children in Nairobi.

Pioneering Growth: The school expanded quickly, was renamed the Nairobi International School in 1970, and moved to its current, expansive location on a former coffee plantation.

Diplomatic Governance: The school was officially established as The International School of Kenya (ISK) in 1976 and is uniquely governed by a joint partnership between the United States Embassy and the Canadian High Commission, cementing its commitment to global standards and diplomatic community support.

Diverse Community: Today, ISK proudly hosts a diverse student body representing over 70 different nationalities, fostering a uniquely rich and globally aware learning environment.

World-Class Curriculum and Educational Aims
ISK offers a rigorous, holistic curriculum that ensures students are equipped with the skills and dispositions to create solutions for tomorrow’s challenges.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Focus: Our academic program is centered on the internationally acclaimed International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, which is undertaken by most students in Grades 11 and 12. We also utilize a robust North American-style curriculum (aligned with standards like Common Core) in the earlier grades.

Holistic Development: Our educational aims strive to develop students of character who are Principled, Respectful, Open-Minded, Caring, and Reflective. The learning process emphasizes inquiry-based, experiential, and project-based learning across subjects like Language Arts, STEM, and integrated Humanities.

Inclusion: ISK maintains an inclusive educational philosophy, offering dedicated Learning Support and English Language Learner (ELL) programs through Grade 10, ensuring diverse learners receive personalized guidance.

Round Square Member: As a Round Square member school, ISK integrates the ideals of Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership, and Service (IDEALS) throughout its student life, promoting active and responsible global citizenship.

ISK is committed to providing an exemplary learning environment and supporting the well-being of its highly diverse student community through strong academic, advisory, and co-curricular programs.
