About Kenton College Preparatory School

Kenton College Preparatory School is one of Kenya’s most distinguished independent schools, boasting a heritage that stretches back over a century. Founded at Kijabe in January 1924, taking roots from the earlier Kenya Grange at Lumbwa, the school’s commitment to academic excellence and holistic development remains unwavering. Kenton moved to its current, expansive location in the leafy suburb of Kileleshwa, Nairobi, in 1934, where it continues to provide an outstanding education in a friendly and welcoming international school community.

Curriculum, Values, and Holistic Growth
Kenton College aims to provide a purposeful and happy environment for children between the ages of 6 and 13 years (Early Years to Year 8). We are dedicated to providing opportunities for children of all races and cultures to discover and develop their talents and strengths.

Curriculum Rooted in Tradition: The academic curriculum is based closely on the highly respected English National Curriculum, adapted to incorporate features that meet Kenyan educational requirements. This rigorous program provides a strong foundation and prepares students exceptionally well for both the UK Common Academic Scholarship and Entrance Examinations and competitive secondary schools in Kenya and South Africa.

Dual-Language Focus: Students engage with a broad range of subjects, including English, Mathematics, Science, Kiswahili, and French (from Year 4), ensuring linguistic competence.

Christian Ethos & Pluralism: While the school maintains a Christian ethos, it is a multi-racial, multi-cultural, and multi-faith school. Our Theology, Philosophy and Religion (TPR) curriculum actively reflects this diversity, fostering tolerance, empathy, and respect for different cultures and beliefs by studying all six major world religions.

Core Values: Underpinning all learning are the core values of Honesty, Courage, Respect, and Kindness, which are reinforced through a dedicated Pastoral Care and Wellbeing programme to ensure every child is happy, confident, and reaches their full potential.

What Makes Kenton Stand Out? Kenton College is part of an elite group of preparatory schools globally, distinguished by its unique environment and focused mission to develop the whole child.

Focus on the Prep Phase: By focusing entirely on the Preparatory phase (up to Year 8), Kenton offers specialized support during these crucial formative years, ensuring students are academically, socially, and emotionally ready for secondary school challenges.

Developing Key Life Skills: The educational approach focuses on developing essential life skills such as resilience, patience, problem-solving, and critical thinking, alongside academic mastery.

Kenton College Preparatory School builds solid foundations—educationally, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally—ensuring children leave as well-rounded, globally aware young people.
