About Urafiki Carovana School
Urafiki Carovana School (UCS) is a committed private Catholic institution offering a continuous and holistic education from Early Years through to Primary School. UCS was born in 2005 from humble beginnings—specifically, the small Emanuela Mazzola Kindergarten located within the Saint Joseph Catholic Church – Kahawa Sukari. The school was founded as a direct, thoughtful answer by the then Parish Priest, Fr. Alfonso Poppi, to meet the urgent need of parishioners for a quality Catholic Institution for their children’s education in the Kahawa Sukari area.
Values, Ethos, and Spiritual Foundation
The name “Urafiki Carovana” embodies the school’s unique ethos: Urafiki (Swahili for Friendship) and Carovana (Italian for Caravan or Journey). It signifies a shared journey of friendship, faith, and learning.
Catholic Identity: As a Catholic institution, UCS deeply integrates Christian principles and Gospel values into the daily life and curriculum. We aim to form students not just intellectually, but also morally and spiritually.
Core Values: We instill core values of friendship, love, community, service, and integrity, nurturing students to become responsible, compassionate, and ethical citizens.
Community Focus: The school remains strongly connected to the Saint Joseph Catholic Church community, providing a stable, faith-based foundation for all learners.
Curriculum Approach and Academic Excellence
Urafiki Carovana School provides a balanced academic program that respects Kenyan educational standards while fostering critical thinking and comprehensive growth.
CBC and Foundational Learning: UCS fully implements the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) framework across its Early Years and Primary levels. Our curriculum is designed to be learner-centered, focusing on developing the knowledge, skills, and behavior necessary for success in the 21st century.
Holistic Development: We utilize an interactive and engaging teaching style that promotes holistic development—caring for the child’s intellectual, spiritual, emotional, and physical needs. We encourage students to engage in creative and practical activities to enhance their learning experience.
Quality Education: We are committed to providing affordable, quality Catholic education that is accessible to families in Kahawa Sukari, Ruiru, and the surrounding areas of Nairobi/Kiambu County.
Urafiki Carovana School offers a values-driven, high-quality primary education rooted in Christian faith and community spirit, ensuring children receive the proper foundation for future success.
